Hand Controllers & Joysticks

Top level Static pages Hand Controllers & Joysticks

Joystick 1
Hand controllers & joysticks are utilised as man-machine-interfaces mainly on tanks, armoured vehicles and artillery turrets. It is also used with optical and radar tracking systems.

Single and Dual Grip Hand Controller
Output signals of the hand controllers & joysticks are generated by potentiometers, strain or inductive sensors, depending whether large or limited rotational movements are required from the hand grips. The switches are sealed and selected for functionality and long term reliability. The hand grips are moulded from highly durable polyurethane. Electronic circuitry can either provide analogue or digital outputs and are protected in a sealed aluminum enclosure which also includes spring return mechanisms and electrical connectors.

Hand grip

Potentiometers provide variable outputs in both traverse and elevation axis.
Several switch options are available. Each grip is normally fitted with a trigger switch and a grip switch. A range of push button switches, four and five way switches and toggle switches are possible.
Typical specifications can include:
- Supply: 24 V DC or +/- 15V DC
- Output: Analogue : 0 to 10 V DC
- Angular movement: between ±30° and ±45°
- Switches: 24V DC up to 5A depending on switch

Compact hand controllers and joysticks

These smaller, compacter controllers are available for analogue as well as for digital output signals. The output from the digital controller can be provided in different formats and the output curve is programmable to suit the client’s requirement. The angular movement is typically ±20°.
The joystick controllers can be supplied as fixed or moveable grips. The fixed grip uses thumb controls as the basic control sensor and the moveable grip uses the grip movement as control sensor.
As with the previous model, a range of switches and controls are available.

Hand grips

The grips are for use with switching functions only and are also available with trigger switches, grip switches and other typical switches. Indicators are also an option. The grips does usually not include controllers and switch filtering.
Several mounting options are available depending on the requirement of each client such as :
- bottom mounting
- side fixing
- cable fixing
